Shepherd's Gate is a congregation that cares deeply about spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ and caring for those in need. Each year we dedicate 13% of our annual budget for missions and charitable work in our community and around the world. We view this as our gift back to our Lord for all the blessings that he pours down on us. Here are some of the many local organizations that we support with our time, talent and treasures.
Baldwin Center
The Baldwin Center is a human services agency that provides programs for the surrounding Pontiac neighborhood. Their mission is to feed, clothe, educate and empower the men, women, and children of the community. We help serve lunch on 5th Wednesdays. We meet at Filippa's restaurant on Mound at 9:15 am to carpool over to the center.
Compassion Pregnancy Center
Compassion Pregnancy Center encourages and comforts women and their families who face a crisis or unplanned pregnancy. They do this by extending Christ-like compassion and the good news of salvation, giving spiritual, emotional and physical support, and educating about life issues. There are numerous opportunities for volunteers to serve at the center. The Christmas gift drive, office assistance, repairing baby toys, processing the CPC Newsletters, and facilitating service projects are some of the ways our members are involved.
International Friendship
The mission of this ministry is to model Christ for our international neighbors through weekly friendship and conversation based classes. We offer friendship and love as we help them learn the English language and culture. Volunteers serve as mentors and conversation partners to individuals or within small groups. No experience is necessary. If you, or someone you know would like to take part in this ministry, our group meets at Shepherd's Gate Tuesdays 9:30 to 11 am. Child care provided. We break for Christmas and during the summer.
MCREST
Macomb County Rotating Emergency Shelter Team works to supply needs such as food, lodging, transportation, etc. for the homeless. Community organizations rotate hosting guests. Shepherd's Gate hosts guests one week each year in our facility. There are many ways for volunteers to support MCREST.
Samaritan House
Samaritan House is a community service organization serving the Romeo-Washington-Bruce-Ray-Shelby area. Their mission is to serve individuals and families by recognizing their needs and mobilizing the means for dealing with those needs so that suffering can be relieved, dignity preserved, and love shared. Shepherd’s Gate members help support this organization by working in the Samaritan House food pantry, volunteering for special projects, answering phones, or interviewing clients.
